Redmond

Redmond serves as an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, with residents that relish in recreation and the community that it cultivates.

WELCOME TO REDMOND

Fifteen miles east of Seattle, on the north shores of Lake Sammamish, sits the city of Redmond. Home to Native Americans for roughly 10,000 years, the region was originally known as ‘Salmonberg’ due to the abundance of salmon in the area’s many rivers and streams before ultimately being settled as Redmond in 1891. To this day, Redmond is full of rich history and architecture but is arguably most well known as the home of Microsoft and Nintendo of America. Many major tech corporations have expanded to the area but this presence does not define Redmond. With 47+ public parks and trails totaling more than 1,351+ acres, at its core, the city serves as an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, with residents that relish in recreation and the community that it cultivates.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Community is at the heart of daily life in Redmond. With annual events like Derby Days and Redmond Lights, and summer favorites including the Saturday Market and Marymoor Park Concerts, events here are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. And with the East Link Light Extension set to open in 2023, expect attendance, and regional population, to continue its steady growth.

UNEXPECTED APPEAL

Nicknamed the Bicycle Capital of the Northwest, Redmond’s cycling community holds a prevalent presence in the city. The League of American Bicyclists recently added Redmond to their list of Bicycle Friendly Communities thanks to the area’s extensive network of bike lanes and paths that make commuting through the city simple and keep traffic light on city streets. Home to the state’s only velodrome, dedicated bike parks, and the annual Derby Days festival, Redmond celebrates two-wheel transportation year-round.

SPOTLIGHT

A day in Redmond isn’t complete without a visit to Marymoor Park. Spanning more than 560-acres, this beloved park has something for everyone. Take your furry companion to the 48-acre off-leash dog park, test your luck with flight in the dedicated model airplane flying field, get active on the climbing rock or one of many sport courts, or round out your evening with a show. In addition to the park’s vast recreation, Marymoor is also a hub for entertainment, attracting major artists from around the world including regular performances by Cirque du Soleil alongside the popular summer concert series with past appearances by artists including Norah Jones, Khalid, Warped Tour, and more.
